Weekly Outline

# Week 1 – Apr 21 to 24

– Complete CDVC Levels 1 to 3
– One-on-One meeting with Lisa on direction

# Week 2 – Apr 27 to May 1

– Development – study donor persona, development track list, candid. Research on potential grants and prepare for Tuesday development team meeting. Work on transportation grant with Johnnita and Victor.
– Research and Outreach – research on potential communities to reach out. Formulate and discuss outreach strategy with Lisa and /or Johnnita. Meeting with Lisa on the outreach methodology and how to use tools: Constant Contacts and Bloomberg.
– Compile findings for CDVC.
– Read Website and compile findings.
– 1 Q&A Session with Lisa on volunteer engagement. Recording for publicity if needed.

# Week 3 – May 4 to 8

– Development – Research on potential grants and prepare grant proposals. Research on potential corporate donors for Stars under the Stars. (Subject to Development Team Meeting on Tuesday)
– Research and Outreach – Implement outreach strategy. Adjust as needed.
– 1 Q&A Session with Lisa on disaster preparedness response scene in NY. Recording for publicity if needed.

# Week 4 – May 11 to 15

– Development – Research on potential grants and prepare grant proposals. Research on potential corporate donors for Stars under the Stars. (Subject to Development Team Meeting on Tuesday)
– Research and Outreach –
– 1 Q&A Session with Lisa on WCC’s organisational resiliency / path traveled. Recording for publicity if needed.
– Transition meeting to Lisa and/or Johnnita. Prepare transition notes.

Overall outputs of placement

– Development
– List of potential grants identified (quantity tbc).
– At least 1 grant proposal prepared, and more if time allows.
– Research and Outreach
– List of potential outreach parties for CDVC and for starts under the stars identified (quantity tbc).
– Outreach strategy identified. outreach implemented as appropriate.
– CDVC, Website, and RRH Enhancement
– CDVC training completed and reviewed. List of findings to enhance training effectiveness submitted and discussed.
– Website read and reviewed. List of findings to enhance website user experience and public and donor’s understanding to WCC submitted and discussed.
– Input on current enhancement of RRH to enhance user experience and coordination effectiveness submitted and discussed, if time allows.

# For Yan

– Goal 1 – To understand the volunteer engagement methods of WCC as a grassroots disaster response organisation
– via the CDVC training, and participating in the check-in session with the Orange County Medical Response Corps CDVC Cohort on May 6
– Any additional community engagement sessions would be highly appreciated
– Q&A session with Lisa

– Goal 2 – To understand the disaster response landscape in the NY area, including:
– via Development and Research and Outreach tasks
– via visits to 911 memorial, Office of emergency management, and American Red Cross
– Any connections to professionals currently or previously worked for WCC would be highly appreciated. I would like to have coffee chats with them (representing myself but not WCC) on the work they do and their insights to the industry.
– Any connections to the following organisations regarding my personal interest would be highly appreciated. I would like to have coffee chats with them (representing myself but not WCC) on the work they do and their insights to the industry.
– Geohazard International – on the role of geologists vs engineers on disaster response
– Center for Disaster Philanthropy – on fundraising trends and strategies
– All Hands and Hearts – on mobilising disaster volunteers on the ground, an alternative POV from WCC

– Goal 3 – To understand the organisation strategic direction and development of WCC
– Q&A session with Lisa.
-Any opportunity to speak with board members / training leaders / other key persons to understand their support to WCC in the past and currently would be highly appreciated.
