The Central Pacific Hurricane Center announces Tropical Storm Olivia is moving towards Molokai and Maui County now. Olivia is moving towards Honolulu at 45 mph and is about 140 miles from Honolulu. Because of the mountainous terrain, it is expected that the already saturated ground from the impact of Hurricane Lane, which dropped 50 inches of rain in August, will generate rockslides and mudslides. Also storm surges will generate dangerous surf reaching up to 20 feet in Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.

Roads may become impassable due to debris, so driving conditions may become hazardous, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.  Flood waters  can cause bridge and road closures. Power and communications outages are expected. For a ready option to contact or create volunteer groups as backup option for communications, visit www.readyresponders.org.  For free post flooding information and training to repair homes, visitwww.disasterrespondersacademy.org for training.
