Rise Beyond Disasters is a non-profit organization aimed at creating a world where the vulnerable, undeserved and marginalized populations and communities are equipped and empowered to anticipate, withstand and recover from the cycles, barriers and disasters through collaboration, education and sustainable community solutions. I believe that if we can educate each other, collaborate and come up with sustainable community solutions, we can avoid or reduce some of the impacts disasters have on our communities.

Several communities in Malawi were hit by cyclone freddy in March 2023, which was recorded as the most devastating cyclone the country has ever faced. This left over 500 000 people displaced, food insecure and jobless while more than 650 people were reported dead and another 500 were reported missing. Additionally, public infrastructures such as schools, health centers, bridges and roads were destroyed in all affected districts making it hard for survivors to access health services and education.
Behind each disaster, there is a group of little children who have become orphans. There is an elderly person who has lost the only child who was supporting them. There is a girl who wants to sacrifice herself into marrying that old man so that her family can be rescued from extreme poverty. Behind every disaster, thousands of devastating stories are created. It is even worse if the country is rated as a 3rd world country and people do not have the right information and resources to respond to disasters.
As Rise Beyond Disasters, in partnership with World Cares Centre, we plan to train as many communities as we can, especially those living in flood prone communities, in disaster response so that they can respond better to disasters in future reducing the impact floods and other disasters have on their communities. We also plan to implement small scale-up projects that can improve the livelihood of those people affected by disasters
